sunshine...

so proud of my little man. yesterday we went to lunch at the farm...http://www.thefarmatsouthmountain.com/ best place ever to have lunch in the wintertime. after he finished eating he ran off climbing trees and I found him nested in reading a book.
then last night, he performed in his school's winter concert, singing and playing a flute. Afterwards we went for Chinese food and mochi icecream to celebrate...so cute.

Mark Klett

I feel so fortunate to study with Mark at ASU. He is the regents professor there and the best instructor I've had yet, even outside of art classes. He is a very well known landscape photographer...this is some of his older work. His images address time and human interaction to land. One of his biggest projects has been with Byron Wolfe where they set out to rephotograph famous historical landscape images. You can often see subtle and/or great changes over time. He and Byron have created a book as well as a website with software that allows you to interact with the past and present. check it out here http://www.thirdview.org/3v/home/index.html
Mark teaches an everyday photography course, which I took last semester. We had to shoot at least a photograph a day, focus on editing, and in the end produce a cohesive book of our semesters work. This semester I had him for View Camera. The two classes are like polar opposites...but he is always thoughtful, and insightful and has this sort of all knowing presence without being an egomaniac. If you ever have a chance to study with him or attend a workshop or talk of his, I highly recommend it. I was first introduced to his photography in a series of work he did where he photographed his daughter and himself together every year on her birthday. When you see them in sequence it's amazing to see time in fast forward. I have been doing a series of Aiden on his birthday as well...from his first birthday. It's the 12:28 series, and I take his picture every year at that time, as he was born on 12:28pm. I will post them sometime...they need to be scanned because they are polaroids. I was so excited to find out that other people do this too, and seeing a his work of 18yrs or so years of birthdays in more than inspirational!
